Chef to Go were celebrating when they recently took home a coveted Bolton and Bury Business Awards.
The awards, organised by The Bolton Evening News and Bury Times celebrates the great and good in the region. Mike and the team took home the ‘We’re backing Bolton and Bury’ award for their work coordinating the highly popular Bolton Food and Drink Festival.
Commenting Mike said: “I was shaking! I didn’t expect it at all.
“I am passionate about Bolton. I used to have a restaurant here years ago, it’s where you come from, it’s your roots. You can’t forget where you come from.”
In addition to his work as a chef providing high class restaurant food in people’s homes Mike is also chairman of the Food and Drink Board at the Octagon Theatre and is heavily involved in the organisation of the Bolton Food and Drink Festival, which boasted record visitor numbers this year.
He said: “The food festival was absolutely fantastic. I go all over the world, I have cooked in Abu Dhabi and all over the place with a lot of top chefs, but the one thing that I won’t miss every year is the food festival.”
“I had the opportunity of going abroad during this year’s event but I wasn’t going to do that.”
Chef to Go were delighted to offer their services to the team at DIY SOS last week creating over 200 Manchester Tarts and gluten free chocolate orange muffins for the huge team of volunteers at the largest DIY SOS project ever completed.
The project located in Newton Heath, Manchester is creating a community for army veterans. Hundreds of Manchester building firms and tradesmen have helped out with the huge project, supported by veterans working with charity Walking With The Wounded.
Mike and John at Chef to Go were joined by army veteran John Borge . John is due to move into one of the homes created by the programme today. He was overwhelmed by the kindness of the tradesmen who were involved and when he heard of Chef to Go’s plans to deliver cakes, he got in touch.
Mike Harrison commented: “We wanted to help in some way and give the team of volunteers at the project a bit of a treat for all their handwork. We created Manchester Tarts with a twist, using a panacotta base instead of the traditional custard, which went down a storm with the volunteers on site.”
Continued Mike: “It was a real honour to welcome John to the team for the day. We were humbled by what he had been through, and delighted that we could help in some way.”
Chef to Go also donated a bear to John’s son Noah and it was sat on his bed waiting for him during the BIG REVEAL this morning.
The programme is due to be aired on BBC One on October 14 and 21st from 8pm.
